Juicy chicken breasts glazed in a sticky, smoky barbecue sauce with brown sugar, garlic, and a touch of red pepper — an easy skillet dinner with the perfect balance of sweet, savory, and spicy!
🍴 Ingredients:
* 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
* 1 cup barbecue sauce
* 2 tbsp brown sugar
* 1 tbsp olive oil
* 1 tsp garlic powder
* ½ tsp black pepper
* ½ tsp salt
* ½ tsp crushed red pepper flakes
* ¼ tsp onion powder
* Extra barbecue sauce for glazing
👩🏽🍳 Instructions:
1. Pat the chicken breasts dry and season both sides with garlic powder, black pepper, salt, onion powder, and a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes.
2. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
3. Add the chicken breasts and cook for 5–6 minutes on the first side, until nicely browned.
4. Flip the chicken and cook for another 4–5 minutes.
5. In a small bowl, stir together the barbecue sauce and brown sugar.
6. Pour the barbecue mixture over the chicken and reduce the heat to medium-low.
7. Spoon or brush the sauce over each chicken breast, turning them occasionally so they become evenly coated.
8. Simmer for 5–8 minutes, or until the sauce becomes thick and glossy and the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.
9. Sprinkle with a little extra crushed red pepper if you like more heat.
10. Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes, then slice and spoon the extra barbecue glaze over the top before serving.
📝 Notes: For an even stickier glaze, let the barbecue sauce simmer for an extra minute or two after the chicken is cooked. Serve with mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, rice, or corn on the cob. 🍗🔥🥔
